is your blood authentic,
can you prove it to me?

out of character.

i. about. Hello! I'm Jack. I'm a veteran roleplayer across all sorts of media, and I think this page has too many words on it. Overall, I'm a pretty easy-going human who prefers dark tropes, emotional depth and company that can distinguish fiction from reality.I'm thirty-six, married and I have a lot of other responsibilities beyond the internet. I might go missing from time to time. Please don't take it personally. Absence is never an indicator of my interest.I'm always DM friendly and I do a lot of writing on Discord because of my limited in-game availability. You're more than welcome to drop me a message there as crowbait.

ii. preferences. I am a long-form writer and prefer slow-burning continuities that tell a character-driven story. While not opposed to candid banter or "tavern RP" between characters, I generally like there to be an underlying sense of purpose to OC interactions. I'm always down to brain storm ways to bring characters together in meaningful and interesting ways!I adhere to a semi-strict sense of realism in my writing that's respectful of the dangers & consequences of character choices. This means observing things like law and order, appropriate social conduct and general common sense in both private and public spaces; ie: don't commit crimes in broad daylight, and expect reasonable in-character consequences for being a creep.

iii. will do.

+ moon sharing
⤷ I do crime. I strongly recommend you do, too, for the full Seneca experience.
+ mature themes
⤷ As a rule, this is all-inclusive. Violence, drug use, sexual content, abuse and other nuanced dark topics are not things that I shy away from in my writing. Consent and communication are key, both of which I ask for in abundance to ensure no one is left feeling either of two extremes: censored or uncomfortable.
+ horror & gore
⤷ Seneca's hypertuning has spliced him with a voidsent of considerable power. Its influence inspires gross violence and indulgence that should be stomach-turning to average folks. I'm always down to dig into gruesome scenes and encourage my writing partners not to be afraid to get a little gross.
+ "bad ending" scenarios
⤷ Maybe you're unlucky enough to have a bounty on your head — or, worse, you happen to be Garlean. Whether it's nightmarish hallucinations, illusory combat scenarios or a good old fashioned murder, I'm willing to write violent AU content with questionable endings.
+ reasonable lore bending
⤷ FFXIV plays fast and loose with its lore, and so I'm not a big stickler for making sure we're following a hard set of rules. I trust my writing partners to create responsibly and within reason, and am confident I can do the same. So long as creativity is happening with respect to scale, I'm down for basically whatever.
+ dice-rolling and/or freeform combat
⤷ If you have a preference, let me know and I'll be happy to accommodate. Otherwise, I'm partial toward free form decision making in most situations to support a more cohesive, writer-driven narrative rather than leaving it to the will of the dice.

iv. won't do.

- minors
⤷ I keep my writing partners to 21+.
- shipping & erp
⤷ While Seneca's nature can be flirty and outright indecent at times, these behaviors exist for entertainment value only. His heart is spoken for. I am not interested in shipping or erotic scenes.
- main character syndrome & god-moding
⤷ I enjoy characters with unique abilities and the occasional anime-scaled power fantasy -- rule of cool is alright in my book! -- but these traits should come hand in hand with equivalent weaknesses. I'm just not interested in characters who are omniscient, untouchable or ten witty one liners in a trench coat and have never bled a day in their lives.
- ic to ooc blur
⤷ I'm not Seneca. The decisions, questionable or otherwise, that are made in-character do not represent my own personal opinions, attractions or morality.
- hateful content & chat
⤷ Don't be a dick.
- pearl clutching
⤷ Pearl clutching is an "exaggerated protest or outrage; a reaction that is more shocked than is actually felt". I'm not a fan of uproarious responses to things that could be better resolved in respectful one-on-one discussions. Assume positive intent, or simply don't engage with content not suited to your tastes.
- poor communication
⤷ In general I think it's good practice to over communicate rather than under. I put a lot of effort into my writing, the projects I collaborate on and the way I conduct myself with others online. I expect the same courtesy and investment in return.

—abilities.

aetherhound.

Seneca is able to identify other beings by their aether, which typically presents to him as unique scents or physical sensations. He is able to use this ability to track the targets he hunts, especially if blood has been spilled. While extremely limited, he can rely on this sense to guide him in obscured areas.

symbiosis.

Aether thickly corrupted with void, Seneca requires a regular supply of aether from outside sources to sustain himself and his avatar. Typically, he accomplishes this by draining the blood of his victims. His own blood is too foul for consumption; a potent hallucinogenic that has its own potential as a weapon.

diabolos' echo.

Seneca's avatar can remotely inflict nightmarish visions upon others with sustained eye contact. Onset of the effect has a hypnotic appeal; a lure leading to a vicious hook of visual and audio delusions. Force of will may negate the effect, or any act that breaks his stare.

overlock.

The hypertuning device stitching Seneca and his avatar together can be activated to increase his strength, speed and endurance to a frightening state. Doing so, however, is extremely dangerous and poses great risk to his health, leaving it a last resort rarely acted upon.

hooks.

  • Engineers: Seneca's hypertuned anatomy is well-beyond the realm of his understanding. The unique amalgam of Garlean magitek and repurposed Allagan technology is in constant need of upkeep and repair, and interfaces too intricately with his own nerves to trust to an amateur's blundering. He's often willing to pay handsomely for someone with deft hands.

  • Thaumaturges: Those familiar with black magic or voidsent communion may take note of Seneca's unique aether even at first glance, a messy form of possession that has unpleasantly tangled his aether with that of his avatar's. Curiosity may encourage conversation or contempt, and careful coaxing may find him accepting help (begrudgingly) from those boasting experience and skill in the dark arts.

  • Refugees: While the notion of being a hero chafes against Seneca's self-image, he often extends a helping hand to war refugees -- especially those looking for vengeance. He will eagerly loan his strength to those with a vendetta who may otherwise be unable to pursue revenge.

  • Hunters: Seneca frequently lurks around hunt boards, waiting for promising leads to draw his attention. He may be well-known by his face or his cruel reputation as a slayer of men, or sought out for collaborative efforts against both beast and human targets.

  • Garleans: Endlessly at odds with the Empire and her people, Seneca considers the majority of native Garleans guilty by association for their country's heinous crimes. He actively seeks reasons to terrorize the pure-blooded of their ilk and will jump at the opportunity to harm one.

  • Blind Vengeance: Seneca has devoted himself to revenge against those who have twisted him into the monster he is today. His unyielding pursuit has the potential to leave scorched earth in his wake, bitterness bred in those who have been indirectly affected by his violence; witnesses, surviving family and those unlucky enough to find themselves in his path.

  • Traffickers: Seneca is particularly unfond of kidnappers and traffickers, especially those that prey upon the weak or children. Those heavily involved in the black market trade of people or their parts will find his mercy incredibly lacking, and he will often take jobs that involve dispatching them for little to no cost.

  • "The Incubus": A moniker for the murderer responsible for a slew of brutal killings in Eorzea. The bodies – all of Garlean heritage – are found mutilated in a multitude of methods, but share one distinct trait: skin pulled gaunt by an unnatural withering, their aether run dry. It would take someone especially bold (or stupid) to confront Seneca as the elusive aether hound. [High Risk]
